Happy New Year!

I’m probably stretching the limits of saying Happy New Year on the 10th Jan,  but as it is the first post of 2012 it seems appropriate. We’ve seen some brilliant photos over the last month as we created lots of life posters for Christmas, and they all arrived in time, thank you UPS and Royal Mail!

My son is talking about going skiing, he’s only 4 and has watched it on TV and thinks it looks great, he’s a dab hand on his scooter and bike so he’d probably take to it, but his brother is only 18 months so a bit young to go this year. Maybe next year.. It got me thinking about getting some great skiing or snowboarding photos to make a life poster, I read the other day that competitive skiers go 80mph, which is amazingly fast, no wonder it hurts when they have a crash! Anyway it would be great to get some sporty life posters on our site, so if you’re planning a Winter holiday this year, why not send us your pics and we will turn them into a life poster for you. Maybe we could use them on our site to show what we do.

Christmas ordering deadline

A life poster makes a fantastic Christmas gift, but you’ll need to be aware of our deadline dates for orders:

For unframed life poster collages:
Wednesday 14th December

For framed life poster collages:
Wednesday 7th December

These are the dates that we will need to recieve your photos by to ensure we can dispatch your life poster in time for Christmas.

Gift vouchers can be purchased up to midday 23rd for emailing.  If you want your gift voucher to be posted, then you will need to place your order by 20th December.

Levi 36 photo collage

We recently added a square photo collage to our collection – the Levi 36 – 36 photos 16″ x 16″ and mounted in a white wooden float frame. It’s been proving very popular and we’ve being enjoying creating some truly stunning life posters.

One stand-out Levi was made up of various flower shots – (Brilliant photos taken by Clare Maffioli) and was a great example of a life poster collage based on something other than people. As we enhance each photo – the colours are brought out and the details made more prominent by sharpening. Printed using our K3 UltraChrome inks the end result was fantastic – so we took a pic to share with you (thanks to Clare for letting us do this).

Wessex 20 photo collage

We have had a number of requests to add text to photo collages, so we thought it would be good to offer a life poster with text as standard.

The Wessex 20 is an A3 collage that features 20 photos in a square cell. The centre area is used for a short message of your choosing. The colour for the background of the text area will be chosen based on the colour of your photographs – sometimes a gradient will work well (as shown in our example) or a solid colour might be best.

The Wessex 20 makes a great birthday present or a personal way to mark a special occasion. As with all our collages we enhance all your photographs.

Taking photos for the Second 20 photo collage

To celebrate the launch of our updated website we introduced the Second 20 photo collage. The idea with this one is to take a series of snapshots of your favourite small person (or persons) on a plain background. We then take your photos and turn them into a stunning photo collage – highlighting the expressions and bringing out the character of the person(s) in the photos.

Taking the photos themselves is easy and does not take long at all. The main requirement is to have a plain (preferably light coloured) background to take the photos against. The reason for this is that it does not distract from the face of the person in the photo and keeps all the photos uniform.

Try and use natural lighting if possible, so you don’t have to use the flash. Doing this will help to avoid stark dark shadow areas. If lighting is not great, then switch the ISO setting on your camera to a higher number. Above all, remember that this is not supposed to be an exercise in taking technically perfect photos, but rather to capture expression and to have some fun!

A prop of some kind will really help with getting children to relax and mess around a bit! We just gave our son Ethan his mum’s glasses and that was all that was needed! The only bit of direction we did was to ask Ethan to look left, right, up and down. The rest was him just doing his own thing!

It took 5mins to take the photos, but we will treasure our Second 20 for years to come.

When you send us your photos, we will convert them to black and white, adjust as needed, then create your life poster. It will be printed on Professional Epson 255gsm glossy photo paper.

Frazer 86 photo collage

We recently introduced the A2 Frazer 86 photo collage. The Frazer 86 comes mounted in a wooden float frame – so can be hung straight on your wall. Float frames are a great way to show off your life poster as they sit flush to the wall with a minimalist and modern look.

Life Poster at Milford Carnival

Our stand set up and ready to go at the start of the day

We had a great day at the Milford-on-Sea Carnival on Saturday. The weather was perfect (a big concern after the awful week) which meant we could show off a selection of life poster photo collages without fear of them being blown away.

Our selection included the Austen 50, a new A2 life poster (which we will put up on the site soon), the Forever 72 and two custom framed life posters. One of the custom life posters acted as the centre piece. With 55 landscape photos mounted and framed in a dark wood, it proved a real hit! A great example of a custom life poster photo collage.

This was the first time we have done something like this – so ‘thank-you’ to everyone who came to our stand to have a chat to find out what we do!

We have recently upgraded our online ordering system to be more user friendly and allow us to add new photo collages more easily. Our life poster photo collages are now split into categories based on size and whether they come in a frame or not.
